Woodcutting Guide

Your route from first steps to mastery.

Gathering & production · Both worlds

Master Woodcutting

Woodcutting supplies logs for Firemaking, Fletching and Construction. A tree with higher XP per log can be much slower to cut, so choose for your goal.

World 1: 50× normal XP. World 2: 100× normal XP. Reference values below show base XP and the normal world-scaled amount, before any activity-specific modifiers.

Before you begin

  • An axe you meet the Woodcutting requirement to use
  • Bank space for logs
  • A knife or tinderbox if processing logs during trips

Your training route

From first steps to mastery

These level bands are recommendations, not extra unlock requirements. Where an option unlocks partway through a band, keep using the earlier method until you reach it.

  1. Levels1–15

    Normal trees around Lumbridge

Collect logs for early Fletching or Firemaking. Upgrade your axe when you meet the requirement; wielding it may have a separate Attack requirement.

  2. Levels15–30

    Oak trees

Bank oak logs for planks or burn/fletch them. Choose a cluster with a short bank journey to keep your trips productive.

  3. Levels30–45

    Willows around Draynor

Willows are a practical sustained-training option. Teaks unlock at 35 if you prefer their location and want Construction supplies.

  4. Levels45–60

    Willows, teaks or maples

Maples unlock at 45 and are useful for processing skills. Stay with faster trees if your goal is mainly Woodcutting XP.

  5. Levels60–75

Yews for supplies; faster trees for XP

Yew logs support higher-level bows and fires. Their slower collection makes them a supply-focused alternative rather than an automatic speed upgrade.

  6. Levels75–99

Choose between magic logs and sustained cutting

Magic trees unlock at 75. Use them for valuable logs, or continue a faster lower-tier tree when regular XP matters more than log value.

Field notes

  • Serenity’s willow resource awards 67.8 base XP; the guide uses this server’s value.
  • Bank logs for another skill instead of dropping them when your account needs supplies.
  • On World 2, check your route and safe-zone boundaries before carrying a valuable axe.
