Thieving Guide

Your route from first steps to mastery.

Support & exploration · Both worlds

Master Thieving

Thieving combines pickpocketing, stalls and other theft activities. Failures cause stuns and damage, so a slightly easier target can be better than a newly unlocked one.

World 1: 50× normal XP. World 2: 100× normal XP. Reference values below show base XP and the normal world-scaled amount, before any activity-specific modifiers.

Before you begin

  • Food and free inventory slots
  • Accessible pickpocket targets or stalls
  • A bank route and a way to recover from repeated failed attempts

Click the skill in your in-game Skills tab to inspect its guide. Check equipment, quests and supplies before leaving the bank.

Your training route

From first steps to mastery

These level bands are recommendations, not extra unlock requirements. Where an option unlocks partway through a band, keep using the earlier method until you reach it.

  1. Levels1–10

Men and women in starter towns

Pickpocket ordinary NPCs for 8 base XP per success. Keep food ready and avoid getting stuck with no inventory space.

  2. Levels10–25

    Farmers and available stalls

Farmers unlock at 10. Female H.A.M. members unlock at 15 and male members at 20 if you prefer their drops; failures can interrupt training.

  3. Levels25–38

    Warriors or lower-level targets

Warriors unlock at 25 and rogues at 32. Choose success rate and location over simply chasing the highest requirement.

  4. Levels38–55

    Master farmers and guards

Master farmers at 38 provide seeds for Farming. Bank valuable seeds and carry food; guards become an alternative at 40.

  5. Levels55–80

    Knights and useful seed gathering

Knights of Ardougne unlock at 55. Continue master farmers when their seeds are more useful to your account than coins.

  6. Levels80–99

    Higher-level pickpockets or reliable knights

Paladins and heroes are options as their requirements are met. Compare failure downtime with knights; a high XP number per success is not an hourly guarantee.

Field notes

  • Master farmers connect directly to Farming and Herblore, especially on ironman accounts.
  • Stalls can involve nearby guards; consider the whole area, not just the stall’s level.
  • Do not leave food behind just because you have unlocked the next target.
