Cooking Guide

Your route from first steps to mastery.

Gathering & production · Both worlds

Master Cooking

Turn raw food into supplies for combat while progressing through reliable fish recipes. Your burn chance matters as much as the listed XP.

World 1: 50× normal XP. World 2: 100× normal XP. Reference values below show base XP and the normal world-scaled amount, before any activity-specific modifiers.

Before you begin

  • Raw food and a bank nearby
  • A usable range or fire; check whether your recipe needs a range
  • Keep cooked supplies for combat, Slayer and bossing

Your training route

From first steps to mastery

These level bands are recommendations, not extra unlock requirements. Where an option unlocks partway through a band, keep using the earlier method until you reach it.

  1. Levels1–15

    Shrimps, crayfish and basic meat

Cook your early Fishing catches or ordinary cow meat near Lumbridge. Low-level food is cheap and gives useful starter supplies.

  2. Levels15–40

Trout, then salmon at 25 and tuna at 30

Use fish from your gathering sessions. Stay with cheaper food while your burn rate is high; switching immediately is not always the best value.

  3. Levels40–62

    Lobsters, then swordfish at 45

Bank raw batches and cook near a bank. Higher XP per success helps only if you can obtain enough raw fish.

  4. Levels62–80

    Monkfish or economical lower-tier fish

Monkfish give 150 base XP on success. Fish availability and price determine whether they are preferable to lobsters or swordfish.

  5. Levels80–99

Sharks, with manta rays available at 91

Sharks give 210 base XP. High-level recipes can still burn, so compare the final cooked supply and losses as well as the XP.

Field notes

  • Brutus’s raw T-bone steak cooks at level 13 for 90 base XP. It is a real alternative when you have his drops.
  • Fishing and Cooking requirements differ: catching a shark at 76 does not let you cook it until 80.
  • Use the recipe table for successful-cook XP; burnt food does not provide the same reward.
