Firemaking Guide

Your route from first steps to mastery.

Gathering & production · Both worlds

Master Firemaking

Burn logs with a tinderbox to gain Firemaking XP. This is a direct supply-to-XP skill, making log availability and cost central to your route.

World 1: 50× normal XP. World 2: 100× normal XP. Reference values below show base XP and the normal world-scaled amount, before any activity-specific modifiers.

Before you begin

  • Tinderbox and unnoted logs
  • A clear line of tiles where fires are permitted
  • Banked logs from Woodcutting or trading if your mode permits

Your training route

From first steps to mastery

These level bands are recommendations, not extra unlock requirements. Where an option unlocks partway through a band, keep using the earlier method until you reach it.

  1. Levels1–15

    Normal logs

Use a tinderbox on logs. Train in a clear area instead of blocking yourself against scenery; keep enough logs aside if you also need Fletching.

  2. Levels15–30

    Oak logs

Oaks give 60 base XP each. Their Woodcutting availability makes them a natural progression from your early gathering.

  3. Levels30–45

    Willow logs

Willows give 90 base XP and are often plentiful from Woodcutting training. Teaks unlock at 35 if you have spare stock.

  4. Levels45–60

    Maple logs

Maples give 135 base XP. Burn spare mahogany only if you do not need it for Construction and are happy with the cost.

  5. Levels60–75

    Yew logs or economical maples

Yews give 202.5 base XP. Compare your supply before switching; a lower-tier log still provides consistent progress.

  6. Levels75–99

Magic logs or sustainable cheaper logs

Magic logs give 303.8 base XP. The best route depends on what you can gather or afford, not simply the highest unlocked log.

Field notes

  • Bring unnoted logs; noted stacks cannot be burned directly.
  • Do not use modern OSRS methods such as Wintertodt as your training plan here.
  • Bow-based firemaking has separate Barbarian requirements; a tinderbox is the straightforward route.
